ASSOCIATE OF ARTS IN LIBERAL ARTS

Studying the liberal arts is an effective way to develop an appreciation for intellectual inquiry and a passion for lifelong learning. Our program encourages students to design their own program of study in the humanities, natural and social sciences, and mathematics. These individualized plans enable students to pursue their interests and develop a mature understanding of themselves and the world.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Liberal Arts program is to provide students with opportunities to strengthen their core academic skills and to develop the habits of mind and behaviors of active learners. Students will design an interdisciplinary course of studies that offers exposure to the various ways that human civilizations have organized knowledge and designed ethical models that shape social systems and cultural values.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Students in the Liberal Arts program will:

• Develop and refine core skills in critical thinking, reading, writing, and listening.

• Demonstrate historical and cultural awareness of global communities through interdisciplinary inquiry. 

• Apply the research methods of various disciplines to analyze and synthesize information both orally and in writing.

• Evaluate complex topics and problems that encourage sensitivity to diversity and self-awareness.

• Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning governed by reason, integrity, compassion, and service.

CAREER OUTLOOK

An associate’s degree in the Liberal Arts is a pathway for continuing studies leading to a bachelor’s degree. It also prepares students for careers in the following fields:

• Administration: Administrative assistant, customer service representative.

• Human Resources: Human Resources assistant or coordinator.

• Marketing: Marketing assistant, copywriter.

• Sales: Sales representative, customer relations assistant.

• Social Services: Social service assistant, community outreach professional.
